Perturbator raw power1/30/2024 ![]() There’s the crushing ‘ Humans Are Such Easy Prey‘ that resonates with relentless fury, channeling all of Trent Reznor’s noisiest moments, climaxing with twenty seconds of mayhem as the track goes into double time. It’s dark, tense and beautifully haunting. There is another callback as Isabella Goloversic returns to sing on ‘ Hard Wired‘, a song that sounds like it should be accompanied by the visuals of Ryan Gosling driving along and smashing someone’s skull open. It absolutely blasts out of the speakers with confidence and vigor it’s even darker than its predecessor: fully incorporating the sounds of cyberpunk and twisting its arm. The one-two hit of ‘ Welcome Back‘ and ‘ Perturbator’s Theme‘ follows the same setup of the previous album’s opener: a gentle lull of ambience that gives way to Perturbator’s trademark sound. The track title and album closer is a thirteen-minute prop-synth epic, which yes… does sound shit on paper (or at the very least: pretentious) but is brilliantly structured, and an excellent piece of electronic song craft. What Perturbator does well, is they (or he) have/has the ability to take the listener on a journey through each song, while also keeping the album cohesive and a journey of its own. ![]() 2012’s I Am The Night was a mixture of 80s action/sci-fi noir soundtracks, video game melodies, and heaps of metallic shoegaze Dangerous Days has a lot of these traits – it just ups the ante tenfold. I mean, just look at that album artwork… Who knows what the genre is actually called, all that matters is that James Kent (better known as Perturbator) has been making some of the finest music within this genre for sometime.
