Number cipher1/29/2024 ![]() Such a deficiency is solved with public key encryption. Because it is private key encryption, the key must be known by the recipient of the ciphertext, so it could be intercepted, or the recipient could be persuaded to reveal it. ![]() When you see this a lot in the ciphertext, it's a good indicator that a rolling cipher was used, which speeds up the cracking process dramatically. Notice that both double letters become pairs where the second letter is the next one in the alphabet. For example, RACCOON using a rolling cipher of 1-10 becomes SCFGTUU. Double letters are better hidden than in a Caesar cipher, but they're still problematic. The nature of the cipher gives clues that it has been used.By brute forcing various starting values, and reviewing their results, it quickly becomes apparant what number the rolling starts at, and, by seeing when the text becomes garbled again, you can quickly infer when the incrementing resets. Because it follows such a simple pattern, the rolling cipher can be cracked fairly simply as well. However, in a rolling cipher of 2-4, BALLOON becomes DDPNRSP, which not only hides both double letters, but creates a false double letter which will confused anyone assuming a Caesar cipher was used. Even if you can't identify the word, you can tell immediately that it contains two double letters which dramatically narrows down the number of possible words it could be. For example, the word BALLOON, when encrypted with a Caesar cipher shifted three places becomes EDOORRQ. In addition to eliminating the ability to perform simple substitutions across the entire message, the rolling cipher is better at obfuscating repeating letters than the Caesar cipher. The rolling cipher is harder to crack than the Caesar cipher.Short messages can be encrypted and decrypted in your head, and you don't need any mathematical skills beyond counting to use it. Plaintext: DECRYPTING THE ROLLING CIPHER. Letters that would be shifted before A simply loop around to Z.Ĭiphertext: FHGWASXNPJ XMG USQNLRL ELTMGU. To decrypt ciphertext that has been encrypted with the rolling cipher, you need only to rotate the letters the same number of places in the opposite direction in which they were shifted in the encryption process, while maintaining the same rolling pattern. The following example uses a rolling pattern which beings with a shift of 10 and increments until the shift reaches 20, and then drops back to 10. ![]() So, a Y shifted ahead 5 would produce a D. If the letter would go beyond Z, simply loop back to A. With this pattern, take your plain text and shift each letter forward along the alphabet according to the incrementing pattern. For example, starting at 3 and incrementing until 8 will produce a shift that looks like 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 3, 4. To encrypt text using a rolling cipher, first, decide on the number to begin shifting at, then, decide on how many times you'll increment before returning to the starting number.

Castlevania dracula resurrection meme1/29/2024 ![]() His comeuppance drives that home with particular violence. The Bishop – and by extension, the whole religious infrastructure – will doom everyone to annihilation before admitting fault, and thus cannot be trusted to protect the interests of a secular population. His efforts fail, but not before the loss of countless innocent lives, a preventable act that speaks to the collateral damage caused by zealots (once again, the Bishop is culpable for Dracula’s grief - and the subsequent rampage). Channeling unrest towards vulnerable scapegoats allows him to take advantage the instability, manipulating people’s fear in order to consolidate his own power. Of course, the Bishop’s proposed massacre has little to do with Dracula or Christianity. The same is true of the Speakers, whose knowledge the arcane is equally useful against Dracula. Even as Gresit crumbles and the body count rises ( Castlevania can be jarringly gruesome), the Bishop perceives Trevor as a destabilizing threat rather than an ally. Prior to the show, the Church excommunicated the Belmont family for using holy relics to combat demonic forces, thereby alienating the only clan with the practical knowledge needed to defeat Dracula. The Bishop will doom everyone to annihilation before admitting fault, and thus cannot be trusted to protect the interests of a secular population.Īs a result, the Bishop makes those lives significantly worse, exposing Gresit to repeated attacks from the undead through his own actions and his refusal to accept assistance from those he considers unholy. Convinced that they are unholy, the Bishop plans to murder them in order to cleanse the city, a brutal scheme that does nothing to address the demonic presence. The Speakers are a nomadic minority residing in Gresit. That gives marginalized groups no recourse when those policies turn out to be monstrous. ![]() When he finally encounters Trevor, he tells him, “The people of this city are mine and our Lord’s now, and they’ll do as I ask in his name.” By elevating himself to godhood (the Bishop later declares, “I will be the Church”), he claims the right to enact policy without any checks on his authority. The Bishop claims to speak with the will of the divine. The subsequent catastrophe is a manifestation of the Church’s rigid attempts to maintain control, and leads to an official response that exacerbates the situation. The Church is portrayed as a political body that prioritizes fealty over service, rejecting anything that would benefit its citizens if it contradicts the existing dogma. ![]() Unfortunately, the Church has established itself as the final authority on all matters both worldly and divine, and therefore tries to expunge chemistry, curiosity and anything else that would challenge its intellectual hegemony. Lisa is not a witch, but a compassionate doctor practicing modern medicine while attempting to kickstart the enlightenment. In truth, the execution is the first hint at the show’s brazen anti-religiosity. His demon army is an outpouring of vengeful grief, summoned only after an unnamed Bishop accuses Dracula’s human wife, Lisa, of witchcraft and burns her at the stake for her alleged crimes. The skeletons on his front lawn indicate that he is still dangerous, but he does not present an imminent threat to the rest of Wallachia. When Castlevania opens, Dracula is a recluse living in voluntary exile. Though the specific sect is never identified – the iconography and the late medieval time period suggest a generic Catholicism – the Church is the source of much of the misery depicted in the show, and is directly responsible for the inciting incident. Warren Ellis’s script instead makes the Church the primary antagonist, positioning organized religion as a malevolent force that perpetrates cruelty and evil. After several appearances in the pilot episode, he unleashes his army and then drifts into the background, a looming presence akin to Sauron in the early stages of The Lord of the Rings. What’s odd is that Dracula is only nominally the villain for much of the first season. The following contains spoilers for the first season of Netflix’s Castlevania. ![]() Castlevania is a competent anime-style adaptation with decent action, solid animation and a reasonably compelling arc in which Trevor Belmont must overcome his apathy to save the city of Gresit from Dracula’s demon army. I mean, why would I? The show started out as a straight-to-DVD animated film, and for the most part, it hits all of the usual beats of the genre. When I first sat down to watch the four short episodes of Netflix’s Castlevania series, I did not expect to walk away with a newfound distaste for organized religion.

Pacific northwest title1/29/2024 ![]() Heartbreaking, funny, and beautifully written, the story is based on the author’s own experiences and chronicles the contemporary adolescence of one Native American boy as he attempts to break away from the life he was destined to live.īrian Doyle’s stunning fiction debut brings a town to life through the jumbled lives and braided stories of its people. In a small fictional town on the Oregon coast there are love affairs and almost-love-affairs, mystery and hilarity, bears and tears, brawls and boats, a garrulous logger and a silent doctor, rain and pain, Irish immigrants and Salish stories, mud and laughter. It’s the tale of a town, written in a distinct and lyrical voice, and readers will close the book more than a little sad to leave the village of Neawanaka, on the wet coast of Oregon, beneath the hills that used to boast the biggest trees in the history of the world.Ī Very Minor Prophet: A Novel by James Bernard FrostĪ Very Minor Prophet is a comic novel, a gospel, an ode to great coffee, a story of great friendship, great love, and of a man waking up in Portland, Oregon, to realize his life and his story is just beginning.įor a Better Life: A Historical Novel of the Pacific Northwest by Dennis LeMaster Determined to take his future into his own hands, Junior leaves his troubled school on the rez to attend an all-white farm town high school where the only other Indian is the school mascot. The story of Junior, a budding cartoonist growing up on the Spokane Indian Reservation. The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie At its heart, Deep River is an ambitious and timely exploration of the place of the individual, and of the immigrant, in an America still in the process of defining its own identity. As the siblings strive to rebuild lives in an America in flux, they also try to hold fast to the traditions of a home they left behind. Layered with fascinating historical detail, this is a novel that breathes deeply of the sun-dappled forest and bears witness to the stump-ridden fields the loggers, and the first waves of modernity, leave behind. Not far from the majestic Columbia River, the siblings settle among other Finns in a logging community in southern Washington, where the first harvesting of the colossal old-growth forests begets rapid development, and radical labor movements begin to catch fire. In the early 1900s, as the oppression of Russia’s imperial rule takes its toll on Finland, and three siblings are forced to flee to the United States. ![]() The scenic wonders of the Pacific Northwest make for a thought-provoking backdrop to several fiction novels, mysteries, and historical fiction stories perfect for a weekend read while vacationing… Don’t forget to pack a book and enjoy a good read while cruising the Columbia, relaxing on the beach, or tucked under a cozy blanket in a snow-bound cabin.

Ultrasun ultra moon secrets1/29/2024 Players can now travel around the Alola region to collect Totem Stickers, which allow the player to receive a Totem-sized variant of a Pokémon. Also, a new Lycanroc form was added, Dusk Lycanroc. In addition, there are new forms for the legendary Pokémon Necrozma, dubbed "Dusk Mane" and "Dawn Wings" forms, which are achieved by absorbing the legendary Pokémon Solgaleo and Lunala, respectively it is conceptually similar to Black and White Kyurem from Black 2 and White 2 and Lusamine's mutated form from the original Sun and Moon. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon introduce new Ultra Beasts: Stakataka, Blacephalon, Poipole and its evolution, Naganadel. "Global Missions", where players across the world work towards a collective goal, also make a return. The player character designs are also different, though they remain customizable. While set in an alternate version of the Alola region, the mechanics and graphics remain largely the same as Pokémon Sun and Moon, with the primary differences being its modified storyline now including the Ultra Recon Squad. Similar to previous games in the series, Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are role-playing video games with adventure elements. See also: Gameplay of Pokémon and Pokémon Sun and Moon § Gameplay By the end of 2018, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon had sold over eight million copies worldwide. The games received generally positive reception, with critics praising the additional features included over Sun and Moon, although some criticized it for being too similar for a majority of the story. Differences from Sun and Moon include an alternate storyline and new gameplay features, characters, Pokémon, and Pokémon forms, including new forms of the legendary Pokémon Necrozma as version mascots. They were the final mainline Pokémon games for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems, with the series migrating over to the Nintendo Switch the next year.Īs with previous installments, the games follow the journey of a young Pokémon trainer, taking place in the Alola region - based on Hawaii. Announced in June 2017, they were released worldwide on 17 November 2017. Part of the seventh generation of the Pokémon video game series, the games are enhanced versions of Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, which released the previous year. Even if it’s only by the smallest of margins.Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon are 2017 role-playing video games developed by Game Freak and published by The Pokémon Company and Nintendo for the Nintendo 3DS. It’s the only option that makes sense though, and while you’d have to be an ultra-obsessed Pokémon fan to want this if you already own the original this is definitely the superior version of an already classic game. Scoring these director’s cuts is always difficult because they’re essentially the same game as before, and it seems almost like cheating to gift them the same score. The game still doesn’t address our one major complaint about the series though, in the lack of any proper artificial intelligence, but we can’t say we’re surprised at that. There’s also some new mini-games that make it easier to farm various in-game resources like battle points. While other minor changes include a revamped interface, including a quicker save option, and slight tweaks to some of the trials and totem fights. There are lots of other cute little touches that do the same, such as playing peekaboo with pokémon you meet in the wild. Hogwarts Legacy sales top $1,000,000,000 as it patches out the spiders ![]() Like Destiny (really!) the endgame in Pokémon is just as important as the story campaign and it’s now even more expansive… and difficult. Not that there is any real difference for the first dozen or so hours though, with the only significant changes occurring towards the end of the main plot. This all creates a highly complex web of vulnerabilities, defences, and bonuses, where even pokémon that are several experience levels lower than their opponent have a chance if they have the right abilities.ĭue in part to their open-ended nature the story in Pokémon games is never very important, so having things play out slightly different in Ultra Sun (the version we played for this review, because we played Sun last time) doesn’t really make much difference. These have the same kind of alignments and often various side effects, such as paralysing an enemy or lowering their accuracy. ![]() Each pokémon you capture has an elemental type (anything from grass to ghost) and can learn four moves at a time to use in battle.
